Presbia Introduces Disposable Microlens Inserter

Ophthalmic device company Presbia, has introduced an innovative disposable inserter for its Presbia Flexivue Microlens, a miniature presbyopia correcting lens, which is implanted in a corneal pocket created by a femtosecond laser. With its simplified action, the new inserter further reduces the time required to complete the Presbia Flexivue Microlens procedure, allowing surgeons to safely complete more procedures per hour of surgery time.

According to Presbia, the disposable inserter meets the requests of many surgeons and their staff to have single-use instruments in their clinics to minimise the risk of patient infection. The disposable inserter compliments Presbia’s widely-used reusable inserter, offering surgeons an option to select the instrument that best suits their needs.

“Our goal is to provide surgeons with the best surgical solution to address the loss of near-vision, while providing the most efficient and safest tools for lens insertion,” said Todd Cooper, President and CEO of Presbia.

The Presbia Flexivue Microlens has received a CE mark for the European Economic Area, allowing the lens to be marketed in over 30 countries across Europe. A staged pivotal U.S. clinical trial for the Presbia Flexivue Microlens commenced in 2014. The disposable inserter was introduced at the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (AUSCRS) conference in Noosa during October 2015.
