CooperVision, a gold sponsor of Optometry Giving Sight, and its employees have donated US$125,000 to the not-for-profit organisation in support of the 2015 World Sight Day Challenge.
The donation was generated from activities organised across 20 CooperVision sites worldwide including a 5km walk/run, family carnival, ‘Celebrate Vision’ month, t-shirt sales, a barbeque and more. Employees have organised creative fundraisers for four years with funds raised matched by The Cooper Companies.
CooperVision President Dan McBride said this year’s donation equated to 25,000 eye examinations. “I am proud of the efforts and commitment shown by our employees who actively participated for the cause. Our purpose is to help improve the way people see each day, and our employees most definitely take that to heart,” he said.
In addition to its employee-led donations to the World Sight Day Challenge, CooperVision generates funds for the organisation through industry initiatives, including offering contact lens patients the opportunity to donate eligible rebates to the cause. This initiative alone has produced close to US$300,000 in
funding to date.
