Theo Meets Matali

Theo’s latest collection ‘Wide Open’ has been designed in collaboration with Matali Crasset, a French designer who completed her diploma in Industrial Design in 1991 before taking on a traineeship with Philippe Starck. Belgian eyewear icon Patrick Hoet assisted in the process by translating and technically perfecting Crasset’s designs.

Wide Open consists of eight optical glasses and four sunglasses.
Each model is named after a ‘trait de caractère’ or a characteristic for example Audacieux (bold), Impliqué (involved), Impulsif (impulsive), Spontané (spontaneous), Rebelle (rebellious) or Sensible (sensitive).

Six glasses are made completely in acetate and six glasses have acetate temples combined with a metal front. In terms of form, each of the acetate frames has a counterpart in metal. The models Audacieux, Confiant, Impulsif and Averti have flex-temples for greater wearing comfort. The sunglasses are fitted with Essilor lenses, which have been treated with multi-layer anti-reflective coating.

This is the first time that the Belgian brand Theo has collaborated with a designer from another country. With plenty of creativity, free-spiritedness and joie de vivre they have been able to mutually widen one another’s horizons.
