The Australian Society of Ophthalmologists will host the ASO Business Skills Expo this month from 21– 22 May.
The Expo brings together ophthalmologists from around the country for a day-and-a-half of learning, networking and innovation with the focus on the business-side of being an eye specialist.
Now in its third year the ASO Business Skills Expo was developed to give ophthalmologists better support in their business endeavours. It is an event where doctors can access expert advice on everything from medical practice set-up to succession planning; investigate trends and innovation in areas such as electronic patient records; and, participate in valuable business-style professional development programs.
ASO President Dr. Michael Steiner said the Expo is a one-stop shop event that no ophthalmologist should miss.
“This event acknowledges the fact that the business-side of being a specialist is no walk in the park,” said Dr. Steiner. “Being able to practice great medicine requires the backing of a well-functioning business.
“The Expo is one-of-a-kind and it has been developed based on feedback we’ve sought direct from practicing ophthalmologists,” he said.

According to Expo Program Facilitator Dr. Nisha Sachdev the key point of difference for the ASO Business Expo when comparing it with other business-focused events is that the seminar program has been tailored to cater for all ophthalmologists; from those starting in practice right through to doctors thinking about succession planning.
“We’ve got all stages of business covered,” said Dr. Sachdev. “All the hot health issues of the moment – the MBS Review and private health insurance – won’t be left unexplored either.”
The ASO Business Skills Expo will be held at the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney’s Double Bay.
Expo program highlights include:
- Vital practice management solutions
- Australia’s Medicare reform
- Private health insurer tactics to manage your care
- Why competition analysis is a must

- Getting started in practice – vital how to’s for new fellows
