Young Optometrists, an Australian group established to support the professional needs of recently graduated optometrists, has become incorporated.
In a letter to members and supporters of Young Optometrists, executive member Carina Trinh said incorporation meant Young Optometrists “can now be fully recognised as a credible and independent association that represents young optometrists. This will provide us with further opportunities to access benefits for our members, as well as enable us to project a stronger voice”.
She said the decision to incorporate had come about following lengthy deliberation to ensure the most appropriate organisational structure was put in place to service members’ needs. “This in effect has a domino effect on optometry beyond the individual early career optometrist, to strengthen the profession,” said Ms. Trinh.
‘Discussions have taken place over the past four years as to how we can maximise our impact as an official body; in delivering tailored continuing education, networking, and social events. This April we finalised our constitution and submitted our application to become an officially incorporated organisation.”
