After founding mivision with business partner Todd Tai more than a decade ago, editor Mark Cushway will finish work mid-December for long-term health reasons and hand over the reins to leading optometry educator and writer, Alan Saks.
“It has been a difficult decision, but one that with increased hospital admissions and heading towards a double lung transplant, I’ve needed to make,” Mark said.
“The timing, as it turns out, couldn’t have been better. I’ll be leaving you in the extremely capable hands of our new editor – Alan Saks – who will take over mid-December.”
Alan Saks has built an international reputation as a leading optometrist, written his own column – In Contact – for over 30 years and contributed to mivision for more than two years. He moved to Sydney at the end of November to take up the role with mivision which he’ll transition into mid-December.
I am proud to now be part of this success story and will strive to maintain the high standard of quality that mivision represents…
The new role “blends many of my skills and represents one of very few things I would be interested in doing outside of clinical practice,” said Alan.
“On the downside this is a result of the founding editor and co-owner of mivision, Mark Cushway, needing to undergo a life changing double lung transplant for cystic fibrosis (CF). Mark remains one of the most positive people I know. As I’ve got to know Mark I have developed the utmost respect for how he has handled the challenges of CF while still managing to keep lifting the game at mivision.
“I look forward to working with my fantastic colleagues at mivision. Collectively they’ve stylishly taken mivision from nothing more than a decade ago to Australasia’s leading eye care journal/magazine and provider of world-leading continued professional development, with a strong online presence.
“I am proud to now be part of this success story and will strive to maintain the high standard of quality that mivision represents. I also look forward to seeing and dealing with many old and new faces in the eye care industry in my new role in 2017 and beyond,” said Alan.
Mark said that he is “enormously proud of the business” he and Todd Tai launched in April 2006.
“I am indebted to our team for not only picking up the slack when I’ve been sick but always making working together an incredibly enjoyable experience. Nikki, Mel, Michelle, Leigh, Simon and Todd… I am grateful to you all for so much,” he said.
