The Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) has partnered with ProVision, Specsavers and Optiblocks NZ to deliver optical dispensing training across Australia and New Zealand.
James Gibbins and Chedy Kalach, who together have over 45 years industry and vocational education experience, established ACOD in late 2016. The College’s status was confirmed as a Registered Training Organisation on 13 December 2016, in accordance with the provisions of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (RTO ID is 45068).
ACOD and ProVision, along with industry experts and suppliers, have partnered to deliver a cobranded introductory short course for staff of ProVision members. The course will cover a wide range of knowledge and skills with students achieving a statement of attainment towards the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing.
Specsavers has endorsed ACOD as its new training provider for NSW, ACT, WA and New Zealand. The ACOD team will facilitate the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing course for these students. According to Mr. Gibbins and Mr. Kalach, benefits will include improved student centred learning experiences and closer engagement with employers and partners.

The Association of Dispensing Opticians New Zealand has been the peak body representing qualified dispensing opticians in New Zealand since 1952 with Optiblocks the arm that oversees the training of student dispensing opticians. Optiblocks has selected ACOD as its new training provider for the Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing. Students are currently enrolling online for blended learning and workshops which will be delivered in Auckland.

ACOD is facilitating theoretical learning online and offering workshops in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane and Auckland. Dates are set to ensure learners are fully able to develop the required knowledge and skills prior to assessment. Workshops cover more complex optical theory and essential practical skills.
