The Australasian College of Behavioural Optometry (ACBO) has been selected to host the 8th International Congress of Behavioural Optometry (ICBO) in 2018. This is the third time that the Congress has been hosted in Australia since its inception in 1992.
Held just once every four years, ICBO will take place at the newly built International Conference Centre in Sydney’s Darling Harbour from the 26th April to 29th April, 2018.
The conference will be attended by those who practice or have an interest in Behavioural Optometry, including optometrists, vision therapists, optometry students, academics and those who are new to the concept and would like to increase their knowledge.
Veronica Kypros, ACBO Executive Officer and ICBO Event Organiser said she expected around 500 people to attend the Congress.
“The majority of registrations will be from Australia; however, behavioural optometry has a strong network of partner organisations globally so we anticipate strong attendance from the USA, Canada (who will be hosting the following ICBO 2022), and Europe including the UK, Spain, Germany, Denmark, and others.”
She said ICBO in 2014 drew attendees from 26 countries.
Vision therapy is also starting to take off throughout the Asia-Pacific so we expect attendees from the Philippines, Malaysia, and Korea,” said Ms. Kypros. “The event organisers provide translation based
on attendance and need, the most common languages being Spanish and German.”
The social theme of the 2018 conference is ‘Return to Oz’ while the educational theme will be ‘From Vision to Practice: Establishing the Future’.
The educational theme will cover four categories:
1. Evidence: past, present, and future
2. Emerging models of practice
3. Children’s vision
4. Practice what you preach: exploring the visual process in action
“The 2018 Congress will be an experiential event with lots of hands-on opportunities and activities for attendees. There will be lecture options for everyone at any level of their career or education. Speakers will be from around the world and will cover many topics within the overall theme,” added Ms. Kypros.
