Carl Zeiss Meditec has announced it will acquire cloudbased ophthalmological tech developer Veracity Innovations for an undisclosed amount. Veracity Innovations developed and produces a cloud-based surgical planning platform for cataract surgeries, covering initial planning, management and analysis of the procedures.
The system is designed to interface directly with multiple electronic medical records and diagnostic devices, covering patients from initial consultation through postoperation, Carl Zeiss said. It will complement the existing Zeiss Forum system.
“Digital technology is fundamentally changing our world and has a major impact in healthcare. Efficiently bringing together relevant information and making smart use of data in a secure way, along with artificial intelligence, is reshaping how medicine is practiced today, and is opening up new realms of possibility for advancing patient care. Zeiss is constantly addressing future-forward trends, such as digitalisation, to give doctors innovative solutions to help patients,” Carl Zeiss president and CEO Dr. Ludwin Monz said in a statement.
Dr. Kerry Solomon Veracity Innovations co-founder said, “We are excited to join forces with the Zeiss team that includes leaders in innovation who have collaborated with doctors on developing and bringing to market so many groundbreaking medical technologies. Zeiss has the vision and the expertise to bring this technology to the next level and is set to revolutionise cataract surgery and extend this solution to transform other applications in ophthalmology and beyond.”
