Optometry Australia Partners with Silmo Sydney 2018

Optometry Australia has announced it will become a principal partner of Silmo Sydney 2018.

Optometry Australia’s CEO Lyn Brodie said the decision was prompted by Silmo Sydney’s “strong focus on optometry innovation and future planning”.

Ms. Brodie said, “Silmo Sydney 2018 will feature a full-scale, interactive practice of the future, as well as the latest digital optometry equipment, which supports Optometry Australia’s goal to gain deeper insights into emerging trends that may impact, and shape, the local optometric sector.

“With support from Silmo Sydney 2017, we will invite delegates, trade participants and key stakeholders from government, academia and allied health to join us at workshops to discuss how they believe the sector, and consumer interaction with optometrists, will evolve over the next two decades.

“The outcomes of these sessions will feed into the creation of a multi-decade strategy that will become the blueprint for a progressive Australian optometry sector”, said Ms. Brodie.

Long-Term Forward Thinking

In 2018, Optometry Australia celebrates its 100th anniversary as the peak professional body for optometrists. Over the past century it has been instrumental in making Australia a world leader in the delivery of vision and eye health services and patient care. Ms. Brodie said it is the organisation’s goal to secure the future of the sector through long-term forward thinking.

Gary Fitz-Roy, Managing Director of Expertise Event and organiser of Silmo Sydney, said he was delighted to form this important partnership with Optometry Australia.

“Both organisations are committed to ensuring that optometry continues to strengthen its position as a core Australian health care provider. Optometry Australia because they are the peak professional body for optometrists and for us, because we deliver Silmo Sydney 2017, a flagship of the Silmo franchise which is the world’s largest and leading optics and eyewear trade fair”, he said.

Silmo was founded in 1967 and is held annually in Paris, Istanbul and Bangkok. In 2017 the fair was staged in Australia for the first time.

The inaugural Sydney fair attracted a wide range of delegates, of which 97 per cent rated attending Silmo to see new trends and products as important while 92 per cent said that they would recommend attending Silmo Sydney to a friend or colleague. Seventy-nine per cent said that they would “definitely or likely” attend Silmo Sydney 2018.

In 2018 Silmo Sydney will be held at the International Convention Centre in Sydney from 20–22 July.
