2018 Ophthalmology Updates!

The 2018 Ophthalmology Updates! conference will be held at the Westin Hotel, Sydney on 25-26 August.

Following on from the success of the previous two years, this year 13 new speakers will cover all ophthalmic subspecialty topics. The conference format will follow that of previous years: a single sub-specialty speaker holds the floor for one hour each, during which there is ample time for discussion and interaction in an informal atmosphere. Each hour will be divided into a ‘common’ topic, ‘frontier’ topic and interesting cases. Some highlights this year include Professor Gerard Sutton speaking on corneal bioengineering, Dr. Chandra Bala on Optiwave Refractive Analysis and Professor Stuart Graham on assessing optic disc progression in glaucoma.

Special guest speakers include Professor Xiaoling Liang from Zhongshan Eye Center who will talk about her hospital, one of the largest in China and research being undertaken there on artificial intelligence. Emeritus Professor Ron McCallum, the first totally blind person to have been appointed to a full professorship in any field and to have served as Dean of a Law School at any university in Australia or New Zealand will discuss his views on visual disability from a patient perspective and how workplaces can better serve those with low vision.

All eye care health professionals are welcome to attend this annual conference, which is approved for 12 RANZCO and 10 Orthoptics Australia CPD points.

This year, the Saturday evening social event will be a private tour of the Archie Rose Distilling Co. in Roseberry, one of Australia’s premier distilleries. The conference dinner will be held at the Bambini Trust Restaurant & Wine Room in the city, where Ophthalmology Updates! has exclusive use of the restaurant.
