George & Matilda Eyecare Acquires 50th Practice

George & Matilda Eyecare has become a national optometry group, with 50 practices around the country, following the recent addition of three practices in New South Wales and Victoria.

CEO Chris Beer said George and Matilda was “delighted to announce the milestone… We have now become a truly national community and are looking to expand this with more quality partners in the future.

“Clearly George & Matilda’s approach is working. Our business strategy is to work closely with high-quality practices across Australia who enjoy strong loyalty in their local communities. We work in partnership with each practice, meaning they continue to manage their businesses while we bring to the table the latest and best-available technology, buying power and supply chain support,” said Mr. Beer.

as a much larger community, our investment allows partners to continue to grow with access to tools like data analytics, targeted marketing and improved buying access

“This combination means, as a much larger community, our investment allows partners to continue to grow with access to tools like data analytics, targeted marketing and improved buying access while maintaining their independence, something we fully support. Everyone is unique and independent and that’s just the way we want it to stay,” he said.

“Our approach is resonating amongst independent practices. Our partners know they are being supported by a fully-funded business which continues to invest in quality and growth while attracting the best practitioners to the George & Matilda community.

“Like any retail environment, the optical industry in Australia is highly competitive and becoming increasingly so. Business owners want to continue to serve their local communities while being able to take advantage of the best new practices and technologies available to meet their customers’ needs.”

Mr. Beer said the company is selective about who they will partner. “For us, the most important part of building a partnership is alignment with our values. We are investing a significant amount to ensure this is the case before committing to partner with someone, as this is critical to all our success.” Mr. Beer said, acknowledging that George & Matilda is currently in discussions with more prospective partners.
