CooperVision’s MiSight 1 day contact lens was named Contact Lens Product of the Year at the prestigious 2018 Optician Awards, in the United Kingdom.
The award recognises the lens product that has made the biggest impact in offering new levels of performance, boosting new fit volumes or keeping patients in contact lenses. The judges selected MiSight 1 day as the overall winner due to its level of innovation, success to date in practice, and strong supporting marketing campaign.
With myopia reaching epidemic proportions, it is forecast by 2050 that 50 per cent of the world’s population will be myopic. Not just a visual inconvenience, myopia also increases the risk of associated pathologies such as myopic maculopathy and retinal detachment, both of which can lead to permanent visual loss and blindness.
According to CooperVision, MiSight 1 day is the world’s first soft daily disposable contact lens proven to significantly slow the progression of myopia in children and therefore lower the risk of myopia-related ocular conditions later in life. It is approved for sale under the CE mark and in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia.
“MiSight 1 day is as easy to fit as a single-vision contact lens and doesn’t require any additional equipment, making the process simple for eye care professionals, whilst being easy for children to handle,” said Gary Orsborn, Vice President of Global Professional and Clinical Affairs, CooperVision.
