The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) rebate for eligible patients undergoing minimally invasive glaucoma (MIGS) in conjunction with cataract surgery has been increased following a recommendation the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC).
Additionally, a new MBS item will be listed, providing a rebate for patients who require removal of MIGS devices due to device related complications.
The changes, effective from 1 November 2018, are as follows:
a) The permanent listing of MBS item 42705 for MIGS in conjunction with cataract surgery. This will include an increased fee of $911.10;
b) The listing of a new MBS item, 42505, for the removal / replacement of MIGS devices due to device related complications.
Eligible providers can continue to access MBS item 42705 for insertion of MIGS devices in conjunction with cataract surgery at an increased fee. Item 42705 remains otherwise unchanged. A new item for the removal and/or replacement of stents following device related medical complications will also be listed from 1 November 2018.
