A series of eight white papers on myopia have been developed by over 85 international experts and made available online. The topics covered in the white papers are considered critical to progressing the capacity of the eye care sector to address the rapidly increasing prevalence of myopia.
The papers have been produced via the International Myopia Institute (IMI), which was founded by the Brien Holden Vision Institute, and is operated under the Vision CRC, a non-profit organisation. The IMI has brought together leading researchers, clinicians, educators and policy makers, to address the growing prevalence of myopia, the risks to vision and how clinicians should best manage myopia, while further advancing myopia research.
The first preview of the long awaited white papers was held in November 2018, at the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) in San Antonio, Texas. Attended by 400 people, the session presented the key findings of the white papers and the implications for the eye care profession, followed by an indepth panel discussion.
