In August 2019, Specsavers will host the third Specsavers Dispensing Conference (SDC3), a roadshow styled, one day event held in various locations across Australia.
This year’s event will be headlined by keynote speaker Professor Mo Jalie, a recognised international authority on the design of spectacle lenses and author of the core dispensing text, Principles of Ophthalmic Lenses.
From Professor Jalie’s presentation on aspheric lenses, attendees can expect a thorough discussion on the various types of aspherical surfaces, how the surface astigmatism arises, how to calculate the required asphericity, how this feature can be used to produce flatter, thinner lenses, as well as how the geometry of atoroidal surfaces can be used in the design of bi-aspheric lenses for astigmatic prescriptions.
Professor Jalie is the Visiting Professor in Optometry to the optometry course at Ulster Univeristy in the UK and to the educational facility, Essilor Academy Europe. He also works as a consultant to the ophthalmic industry and has written a near 200 papers on ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, intraocular lenses and dispensing. His broad knowledge set makes him an ideal presenter for this year’s conference.
SDC3 will take place from August 4-9 in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. It is open to all qualified optical dispensers and optical dispensing students.
