One of Australia’s most respected lifestyle sunglasses brands, Otis, has launched an optical range of all eco-friendly styles for the prescription eyewear market. The frames, made from eco-acetate that’s biodegradable at the end of its life, take cues from already popular Otis designs and will be distributed exclusively in Australia and New Zealand by ProOptics.
“We’ve been developing the Otis Rx Range for quite some time, so it’s really exciting to see it come to life in a partnership with ProOptics,” said Otis Brand and Product Manager, Lucy Martino. “Those of us in the office who need prescription eyewear have been wearing them non-stop already, so can’t wait for others to be able to get their hands on them.”
Jacque Katsieris, Managing Director of ProOptics said, “We are so fortunate to be bringing this brand to independent optometrists in Australia and New Zealand. Our customers are searching for ways to buy not only stylish frames but feel good about the planet with their purchasing; Otis has given us this opportunity.”
Proudly Western Australian
Otis was founded along the rugged and surf-rich Southwestern Australian coast in 2000 and states that its unique point of difference in the eyewear market is to be “a premium product that transcends the boundaries between style, durability and technical excellence”.
Every frame in Otis’ Rx range is crafted with a special eco-acetate, which uses renewable materials like cotton seeds and wood pulp to make them. The process also means that the acetate portion of the frames can be separated out at the end of life and returned to the earth, closing the loop for circular production. Other components like the metal hinges are 100% recyclable too. The move continues Otis’ commitment to working towards forever improving sustainability practices.
Best-selling frames Omar, 100 Club and Summer of 67 are all available in optical options from 1 March.
