A new member-based, professional network for the optical dispensing industry has launched, with a promise to transform the industry and enable the profession to meet its full potential.
Optical Dispensers Australia Pty Ltd (ODA) officially launched on 10 January 2022, immediately gaining considerable traction with over 1,000 members joining.
committed to professional excellence and ensuring the optical dispensing profession reaches its full potential
Co-founded by Australasian College of Optical Dispensing (ACOD) Directors James Gibbins and Chedy Kalach, and one of ACOD’s senior lecturers, April Petrusma ODA was founded with one main objective in mind: to transform the optical dispensing industry by creating a community where optical dispensers and their affiliates can feel supported and inspired.
The organisation says it is “committed to professional excellence and ensuring the optical dispensing profession reaches its full potential. ODA strives to provide a place for members to share and gain knowledge and ideas, to build a network with like-minded industry peers, to access current industry resources and to seek work-based support”.
There are three membership levels available with varying benefits: Qualified Optical Dispenser, Affiliates (including associates and other practice/non-practice based staff) and Student (for those currently studying Cert IV in Optical Dispensing at a nationally recognise training institution).
Membership benefits include exclusive access to resources on the ODA website – the hub of its offerings, not least Australia’s newest and most comprehensive CPD programme for optical dispensers – including monthly webinars, as well as an array of networking opportunities via an online forum, a yearly industry conference, career related resources, recent job listings, as well as access to online dispensing calculators and health fund guides. Qualified dispensers are also granted complimentary membership to the International Opticians Association (IOA).
