UNSW Sydney Optometry Students and Staff Awarded

Prestigious awards have been presented to five staff and students from the School of Optometry and Vision Science, Faculty of Medicine and Health at University of New South Wales Sydney.

Dr Jack Phu – recognised with the Irvin M. and Beatrice Borish Award from the American Academy of Optometry.

This award “recognises an outstanding young scientist or clinician scientist who shows exceptional promise in conducting independent research directly related to etiology, prevention, detection, diagnosis or management of clinical ocular disorders”.

Dr Huy Tran who recently graduated with a PhD from UNSW SOVS was recognised with an Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) Developing Countries Eye Researcher Fellowship (DCERF).

PhD students – Sidra Sarwat has been awarded as the Bert C. & Lydia M. Corwin Ezell Fellow and; Rajendra Gyawali has been awarded as the Merton C. Flom Leadership Ezell Fellow from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation.

PhD student Binod Rayamajhee was recognised with the Joe and Janet Barr Early Career Cornea and Contact Lens Research Award – 2022 from the American Academy of Optometry Foundation.

This award was established in 2012 and is presented to a postgraduate student who “demonstrates exceptional contributions to vision science and contact lens research”.
