Freddy Bear to Restore Sight

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fred Hollows Foundation, ‘Freddy Bear’, a gift to restore sight, was launched on World Sight Day, 13 October, as a tribute to the late Professor Fred Hollows and his work restoring sight to people with avoidable blindness.

The Freddy Bear retails for $60, with $25 from each sale going to restoring sight to needlessly blind people in Australia and around the world.

I hope that people love the Freddy Bear as much as I do and use it to pass on the torch to younger generations

“The Freddy Bear is an adorable souvenir for kids, adults, and families to cherish and hold onto for the next 30 years,” said Gabi Hollows, Founding Director of The Foundation.

“I hope that people love the Freddy Bear as much as I do and use it to pass on the torch to younger generations – teaching them the importance of what Fred set out to do over 30 years ago.”

More than 1.1 billion people globally suffer vision loss due to a lack of eye health services. According to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness this creates an economic loss of $AU530 billion annually.

The Fred Hollows Foundation has helped restore sight to three million people, however with further funding, more can be done.
