Eye Health Conference for First Nations People

The 2023 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference (NATSIEHC23) will take place in Sydney from 24–26 May 2023.

Building on the 2022 Conference, this year’s event aims to facilitate further exploration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination and leadership in eye care.

The theme connects the sector’s work with the wider movement towards First Nations self-determination, the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and the movement to establish First Nations voices into future policy making.

Organisers say the conference is designed to empower, inform, and inspire First Nations delegates to lead initiatives designed to improve eye health outcomes in communities, while aiming to deliver knowledge, guidance, and practical skills to non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander delegates.

Award Nominations Open

Nominations for the NATSIEH 2023 awards are invited in the following categories:

  • Contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health by Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO),
  • Contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health (Individual),
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership in eye health, and
  • Allyship in contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health.

The awards, which particularly aim to identify and acknowledge the many ‘unsung heroes’ in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health, will be presented during the Conference.

Nominations close 21 April, 2023.
