Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) has released a new educational course for optometrists on inherited retinal disease (IRD).
In Australia, one in every 1,500 children is born with an IRD.
The self-paced CPD course includes education on how to best detect and image IRD, key signs and symptoms about IRD and its impacts, managing and reducing modifiable risk, ensuring high-risk individuals have regular eye examinations, and giving health professionals the necessary information to link people diagnosed with macular disease with appropriate supports and services.
The course is accredited by Optometry Australia for 2 Therapeutic hours.
MDFA also has courses on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), developed with Australia’s leading retinal specialists, and diabetic eye disease.
The courses are available online via the MDFA’s website.
