Ophthalmologists from around the world and representatives from the boards of the Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Organisation (APAO), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO), and National Eye Institute (NEI) are set to descend on Bali in late February for the 39th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress.
To be held from held from 22–25 February at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, this year’s Congress is hosted by the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association – PERDAMI.
During the Congress, awards will be presented recognising distinguished service and outstanding service in the prevention of blindness awards.
Seventeen streams will run concurrently with 1.5 hour scientific sessions comprising several 10 minute lectures from multiple speakers
Comprehensive Scientific Program
Seventeen streams will run concurrently with 1.5 hour scientific sessions comprising several 10 minute lectures from multiple speakers. Additionally, the program includes plenary sessions and wetlabs. In its entirety, the Congress has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) with 18.0 European CME credits.
A seemingly endless list of invited speakers for APAO includes 40 eye care professionals from Australia alone and six and from New Zealand. Australian speakers include ophthalmologists Professor Andrew Chang AM (who is deputy Secretary-General of the APAO), Professor Colin Chan, Associate Professor Clare Fraser, Professor Stephanie Watson, Professor Keith Martin, Professor Adrian Fung, and Professor Mark Gillies, as well as Dr Heather Machin and Dr Annette Hoskin.
Speakers from New Zealand include Dr Joevy Lim, Professor Charles McGhee, Dr Justin Mora, Dr Jacqueline Ramke, Pushkar SilwalI, and Renata Watene.
Fun Run Fundraiser
The Congress will include the 6th APAO Fundraising Run, donations from which will be used to support the St Damian Leprosy/Disability Rehabilitation Centre in Indonesia and the APAO Leadership Development Program (LDP).
The fun run comprises two components: a run to Bali which requires participants to start running in their own countries and accumulate distance (minimum 5km) from January 20 to February 20, 2024; and a 5km Run/Walk Challenge, which will depart from the main entrance of the conference centre on 24 February, 2024.
