CCLSA Dry Eye Lecture Melbourne, Wednesday 6 March 2024

Dr Jim Kokkinakis, a trailblazing optometrist in the fields of contact lenses, anterior eye and dry eye management, will present the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of Australia’s first lecture for 2024 on Wednesday 6 March.

Over dinner, Dr Kokkinakis will review misconceptions in dry eye management that can be ineffective or even makes things worse.

Dr Kokkinakis will review misconceptions in dry eye management… then explore the toxicity of skin lipids on the ocular surface

Dr Kokkinakis, who is currently undertaking a PhD research project focussing on dry eyes and in particular blepharitis, ocular rosacea and meibomian gland dysfunction, will then explore the toxicity of skin lipids on the ocular surface.

Old and new technology can clearly demonstrate the toxicity of skin sebum applied to the lid margin, the lacrimal lake and the cornea. The results are astounding and will require a rethink of how we approach dry eyes in the future. A lively discussion on conclusion is anticipated.
