Painful Dry Eye Webinar

Professor Laura Downie will headline an online dry eye webinar, to be hosted by Professor Stephanie Watson OAM, for the DryEyeClub.

The free online event is themed ‘Painful dry eye: What do we know?’ and is part of the DryEyeClub: Seeing Outcomes 2024 series.

It will be held on Tuesday 18 July, from 5pm AEST.

The seminar will hear from leading dry eye research experts and clinicians including Prof Downie, the Dame Kate Campbell Fellow for Research Excellence in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Research Leader – Downie Laboratory: Anterior Eye, Clinical Trials and Research Translation Unit. Other speakers include Dr Himal Kandel and Dr Ngozi Chidi-Egboka from the Save Sight Institute.

Prof Watson… will also highlight ground-breaking research from the Save Sight Dry Eye Registry aimed at “understanding the natural history of dry eye disease from the real-world registry data”

Prof Watson, Head of the Corneal Research Group, Save Sight Institute, Head of the Corneal Unit, Sydney Eye Hospital, and Chair of Australian Vision Research is hosting the event. She will also highlight ground-breaking research from the Save Sight Dry Eye Registry aimed at “understanding the natural history of dry eye disease from the real-world registry data”.

The webinar will cover:

  • Dry eye disease treatments and therapies in everyday practice,
  • Challenges faced by clinicians in relation to accurate diagnosis of dry eye in routine clinical practice,
  • Current research to develop new technologies targeted at dry eye treatment,
  • Understanding the natural history of dry eye disease from the real-world registry data, and
  • Usefulness of patient reported outcomes.

The webinar will also hear from Rachel Love, a fundraising professional working closely with Prof Watson to support corneal research.
