The global optics industry is set to converge at SILMO Paris 2024, where the latest innovations and future trends in eyewear and optical technology will be showcased. Scheduled for 20–23 September at Paris Nord Villepinte, this pivotal event will host over 900 exhibitors and 1,500 brands from 144 countries across a 75,000 m² venue.
A highlight of this year’s event is the Futurology space, offering an immersive glimpse into the optics industry of 2035. The Trends by SILMO Forum Exhibition will present four key trends in frame design: Free Colourama, Virtuous Simplicity, Classic Variations, and Full Sun.
The annual trade fair will feature prestigious competitions, including the Optical Design contest and the SILMO d’OR awards, which this year will celebrate its 30th anniversary. The SILMO Academy symposium will offer a €10,000 grant for research in vision and optical sciences.
Eric Lenoir, Director of SILMO trade fairs, emphasised the industry’s evolving landscape, noting, “From smart, AI-equipped eyeglass design to revolutionary tools for opticians, the possibilities are wide reaching”. He highlighted the potential for future eyewear to translate languages instantly or detect health issues.
Mr Lenoir also addressed the impact of in-shop 3D printing and the prediction that connected glasses may replace smartphones. Stressing the importance of professionals adapting to these changes, he stated, “To remain essential players, professionals must reinvent the shop experience, re-centring the offer on customer service and innovation”.
