HOYA Sensity Adaptive Lenses

As optometrists continue to observe an uptick in light sensitivity among patients, particularly in younger demographics, the need for versatile lens solutions has never been more pressing.

Recent data from HOYA Vision Care reveals a striking statistic: 74% of individuals aged 18–40 report light sensitivity, compared to 66% of the general population.1 This trend underscores the importance of offering patients adaptive lens options that cater to diverse lifestyles and visual needs.

HOYA’s Sensity range of light adaptive lenses, is a comprehensive suite designed to address the growing challenge of photosensitivity while providing clear vision and sun protection. The Sensity line comprises four distinct spectacle lens types, each tailored to specific lifestyle requirements:

  1. Sensity 2: Ideal for professionals and students who transition between indoor and outdoor environments, offering balanced adaptation to varying light conditions.
  2. Sensity Dark: Engineered for outdoor enthusiasts, providing robust sun protection and glare reduction for activities like hiking, cycling, and driving.
  3. Sensity Shine: Features a mirror coating that combines style with function, perfect for urban dwellers and social butterflies who prioritise both aesthetics and UV protection.
  4. Sensity Fast: Designed for rapid light-to-dark transitions, catering to individuals who frequently move between indoor and outdoor settings, such as hospitality workers or weekend explorers.

All Sensity lenses are available in silver grey and bronze brown, with emerald green as an option for most variants. Sensity 2 exclusively offers an oceanic blue tint, expanding the palette to suit patient preferences.

For practitioners looking to enhance their dark lens offerings, HOYA has introduced the Hi-Vision Sun Pro coating. This innovative solution addresses the issue of “ghost images” in dark spectacle lenses while improving contrast and providing UV protection from both front and back. Notably, the coating maintains the natural colour of the chosen tint, avoiding the colour shifts sometimes associated with other anti-reflective coatings.
