Australia’s Professor Sharon Bentley has promised to strive for “excellence with kindness” as she prepares for her new role of Dean of the prestigious Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University College of Berkeley (UC Berkeley).
In a podcast interview with the United States’ Women in Optometry (WO), Prof Bentley has spoken of her plans to ensure “cultural safety” in UC Berkeley’s School of Optometry academic programs. She’s also indicated that grappling with the changes presented by artificial intelligence will be a priority.
Prof Bentley is currently Professor of Optometry, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health, and Director of the Centre for Vision and Eye Research at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
She will commence her new role in February 2025, and will oversee the school’s academic programs, research initiatives, and community outreach.
