George and Matilda Eyecare has concluded a bumper year of growth by expanding into Western Australia with the acquisition of Eye5 Optometrists – three established practices located in Nedlands, Greenwood, and Kalgoorlie. Founded in 2016, the group now looks after more than 120 communities.
Other acquisitions in 2024 have included 26 National Optical Care practices as well as practices in South West Rocks and Moss Vale in New South Wales, Sanctuary Cove and Main Beach in Queensland, and a practice that could not be disclosed at the time of publication.
In a statement, George and Matilda Eyecare said the 2024 partnerships underscore the company’s “commitment to supporting optometrists and their communities across Australia”.
Andrew Godfrey, a founding partner with Eye5 Optometrists, said that having worked with George and Matilda before, he felt comfortable with the decision to join the group and the support that would be provided.
… it’s important to look at the landscape and decide whether your future is best served through change
“I like to think of our working life as a train journey. For us, this is our stop. We… were impressed with the systems and processes George and Matilda have in place, knowing they can take care of our staff, patients, and practices… I am constantly surprised by how truly excellent and warm every person at George and Matilda is.”
For optometrists considering their future, Mr Godfrey advised, “It’s easy to keep doing what you’re doing, but it’s important to look at the landscape and decide whether your future is best served through change .”
