SeeWay has announced the launch of a new mental wellbeing service, designed to address the emotional and psychological impact of low vision.
SeeWay, an initiative of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, said the programme was the first of its kind in Australia, and would offer fully subsidised, tailored mental health support to individuals living with vision loss and their families and carers.
One-on-one support would be delivered by SeeWay’s psychology partner onPsych at no cost to patients.
“Until now, there has been no structured, dedicated programme to provide the emotional support needed by individuals with low vision, SeeWay General Manager Mirné le Roux said.
“SeeWay’s new initiative addresses this gap, ensuring patients receive both the medical care and mental health support necessary for a comprehensive low vision care experience,” she said.
Holistic Care
SeeWay said its new mental wellbeing service is designed to work alongside eyecare professionals to provide holistic care by:
• Offering counselling and mental health support tailored to the challenges of vision loss,
• Providing a referral pathway to ensure patients receive integrated support beyond medical treatment,
• Enhancing patient outcomes by equipping individuals with the tools and strategies to adapt, stay connected, and maintain their independence.
SeeWay said it was looking for opportunities to further expand its network and would welcome opportunities for further collaboration.
