Mental Wellbeing Service for Low Vision

SeeWay has launched a Mental Wellbeing service to address the emotional and psychological impact of low vision. This program – the first of its kind in Australia – offers tailored and fully subsidised mental health support to individuals living with vision loss as well as their loved ones, ensuring they receive the comprehensive care they need.

SeeWay’s new psychology support program integrates with the clinical care already provided by eye care professionals and low vision organisations to bridge the gap in low vision care.

No out-of-pocket cost support to help patients manage the emotional and practical challenges of vision changes

This collaborative effort ensures that individuals receive not only the necessary clinical and practical care but now also the mental health support they need to adapt and thrive.

A Holistic Approach

SeeWay’s new Mental Wellbeing service is designed to work alongside eye care professionals to provide holistic care by:

  • Addressing the mental wellbeing of patients – offering counselling and mental health support tailored to the challenges of vision loss.
  • Providing a seamless referral pathway – ensuring patients receive integrated support beyond medical treatment.
  • Enhancing patient outcomes by equipping individuals with the tools and strategies to adapt, stay connected, and maintain their independence.

Subsidised Access

Subsidised access is seamless and includes:

  • One-on-one support delivered by SeeWay’s psychology partner onPsych, with a dedicated team of psychologists and mental health social workers who understand the unique emotional and practical impacts of low vision.
  • Supportive group workshops to connect and share experiences.
  • No out-of-pocket cost support to help patients manage the emotional and practical challenges of vision changes.
  • Flexible access with face-to-face or telehealth options to suit your patient’s lifestyle.

SeeWay.com.au is the home of SeeWay and reaches all Australians nationwide.  SeeWay is available to individuals with any low vision diagnosis, though it is particularly beneficial for those with a visual acuity of 6/12 or lower.

Partner with SeeWay

SeeWay, an initiative of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, is designed to support people with low vision/permanent changes in their vision – a group that often falls through the gaps, as they may not qualify for traditional funding and services for people who are legally blind. By addressing this unmet need, SeeWay provides essential resources, guidance and now psychological support to help individuals with low vision maintain independence and quality of life as their vision changes.

SeeWay has already partnered with a number of organisations in the low vision space and is looking for opportunities to further expand its network and deepen its impact. If your organisation is interested in collaborating to improve the quality of care and support available to individuals living with low vision contact: Holly Kelly hkelly@guide.
