Wollongong-based Professor Smita Agarwal has been recognised for excellence at the 43rd ASCRS Film Festival, taking home top honours in the Shorts category for her innovative work ‘SMILE for Hyperopia: A Game-Changer!’.

The award was presented during the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Annual Meeting held in Los Angeles, California from April 25-28, 2025.
Prof Agarwal’s winning film showcases groundbreaking techniques for hyperopia treatment using SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) technology.
