Thirteen ophthalmologists from Australia and New Zealand have been recognised as being the most influential in the Asia-Pacific region in the Asia-Pacific Eye 100.
Named in the top 10 are Professor Hugh Taylor AC, recognised as Australia’s leading authority on Indigenous eye health, at number three, and, at number six, Professor Charles McGhee ONZM, Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology, Director of New Zealand National Eye Centre, University of Auckland.
Established in 2023, the Asia-Pacific (AP) Eye 100 is a biennial event initiated by the Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology to honour and celebrate the top 100 most influential and inspiring ophthalmologists from the Asia-Pacific region who have made significant contributions to ophthalmology in the region and beyond.
Professor Stephanie Watson OAM (Australia) and Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer CNZM FRSNZ (NZ) are the only female ophthalmologists from Australia and New Zealand in the 2025 list.
