Santen Sponsors IMI to Tackle Myopia

The global pharmaceutical company Santen, has committed to support the activities of the International Myopia Institute (IMI).

“We are delighted to welcome Santen as a partner in our mission to advance research, clinical management and global education in myopia. Open collaboration and the transparent sharing of knowledge with eye care practitioners (ECPs) worldwide are essential if we are to reduce the growing burden of myopia-related vision impairment,” said IMI Executive Director, Dr Nina Tahhan. “IMI remains committed to delivering the latest evidence-based information directly to ECPs across the globe – work that is only possible through the invaluable support of industry partners such as Santen.”

By supporting IMI’s work, we help ensure that new insights and practical guidance reach eye care practitioners as the field continues to evolve

Santen’s sponsorship of the International Myopia Institute comes at a pivotal time for myopia research. The IMI recently published Volume Four of the IMI White Papers and Digest in a special issue of the peer-reviewed Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS) and is now releasing the IMI 2025 clinical summaries and their international translations.

The IMI white papers (Volumes 1–4) and clinical summaries – available in up to 15 international languages – can be accessed at myopiainstitute.org/imi-white-papers.

“Our collaboration with the International Myopia Institute reflects Santen’s long-term commitment to advancing evidence-based myopia care,” said Peter Sallstig, Chief Medical Officer, Santen. “By supporting IMI’s work, we help ensure that new insights and practical guidance reach eye care practitioners as the field continues to evolve. Together, we can contribute to more informed and sustainable approaches to caring for children’s vision.”

“There remains much to do in raising myopia awareness and improving the understanding among both eye care practitioners and the general public about the need – and the opportunity – to slow myopia progression clinically,” added IMI Chair, Professor Serge Resnikoff. “We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Santen and all our sponsors to ensure the global eye care community has free access to high-quality, evidence-based information on myopia treatment and prevention.”
