10 Years, Three Million Implants for Glaukos

Glaukos Australia is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in Australia, a milestone that coincides with a significant global achievement for Glaukos: more than three million implants worldwide.

The achievements underscore the company’s transformative impact on the treatment of glaucoma, at a time when the eye care community marks Glaucoma Awareness Week (8-14 March 2026).

Over the past decade, Glaukos Australia has played a pivotal role in bringing micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) to Australian surgeons and patients. As the pioneer of Glaukos iStent technology, the company has enabled surgeons to intervene earlier in the disease continuum, helping to reduce reliance on topical medications, preserve vision, and improve quality of life for patients living with glaucoma.

“Reaching 10 years in Australia is a testament to the dedication of our team and the strong partnerships we have built with ophthalmologists nationwide,” said Glenn Fawcett, Glaukos’ Vice President for the Asia Pacific Region. “Achieving three million implants globally reflects the trust surgeons place in our technology and our shared commitment to transforming vision.”

Canadian surgeon scientist Professor Ike Ahmed described MIGs as transformative.

“Three million implants means millions of eyes where glaucoma is being managed differently – earlier, less invasively, and with greater precision. That’s the real milestone. Glaukos has been at the centre of this transformation, giving ophthalmologists around the world practical, proven tools to change the trajectory of this disease, and I’m proud to be part of that effort.”
