For the first time in a decade, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) Congress will return to Aotearoa New Zealand this November.
The 57th Annual Scientific Congress will be held from 6–9 November at the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) in Auckland (Tāmaki Makaurau).
Congress Convenors Dr Peter Hadden and Dr Rachael Niederer said Auckland’s blend of scientific infrastructure and natural setting made it an ideal Congress location.

Engineer and science communicator Dr Michelle Dickinson MNZM will open the Congress, drawing on her background in nanomechanics and technology strategy.

Professor Robyn Guymer AM (Melbourne) will deliver the Council Lecture on functional outcomes in geographic atrophy trials. Professor Chris Hammond (King’s College London) presents the Sir Norman Gregg Lecture on the genetics of age-related cataract, while Professor Robert Casson (Adelaide) delivers the Dame Ida Mann Memorial Lecture on retinal energy metabolism.
Dr Gullapalli N Rao, founder of India’s L V Prasad Eye Institute, gives the Hollows Lecture on equitable, sustainable eye care models.
Update Lectures will be presented by Dr David Chang (cataract, US), Professor Anthony Khawaja (glaucoma, University College London/Moorfields), Professor Valerie Biousse (neuro-ophthalmology, Emory), Professor Dan Martin (retina, Emory) and Dr Ik Hee Ryu (refractive, South Korea).
RANZCO said the program reflects its commitment to bringing global expertise to the Asia-Pacific region, saying the line-up gives delegates direct access to the researchers and clinicians shaping practice internationally.
Registration is open, with early bird rates available until 22 September 2026.
The Congress will be held in person only, with session recordings available on demand within two weeks of the event concluding.
