With the availability of Syfovre (pegcetacoplan) in Australia for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA), pharmaceutical company Apellis is hosting a free online education event on the new treatment paradigm.
The webinar, ‘GA Through a New Lens: The Era of Treatment is Here’ will be held on 10 April: 7.30pm (NSW, QLD, TAS, VIC); 7.00pm (SA); 5.30pm (WA).
Leading retinal experts, Professor Robyn Guymer AM (meeting chair), Dr Jennifer Arnold, and Professor Andrew Chang AM will discuss current challenges in the treatment of GA, and the significance of slowing lesion growth in the disease.
Presenters will review the efficacy, safety, and clinical impact of slowing the progression of GA, as well as considerations for discussing treatment with patients.

Australian Availability
Syfovre was approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) earlier this year, making Australia the first country outside the United States to approve the treatment.
It is the first and only approved treatment for GA in Australia and is indicated for the every-other-month treatment of adult patients with GA secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with an intact fovea and when central vision is threatened by GA lesion growth.
The approval was based on results from the Phase 3 OAKS and DERBY studies at 24 months. In the studies, treatment with both every-other-month and monthly Syfovre slowed GA progression and showed a generally well-tolerated safety profile. The results were published in The Lancet in October 2023.1
Syfovre is now available via private prescription and can be ordered through Australian pharmaceutical distributor CH2.
