Learn and Network Over Dinner

The evening will blend education, networking, and open conversation in an intimate setting, with dinner and drinks provided. Attendees will gain a strong understanding of how private practice operates, including patient flow, referral networks, billing models, and the foundational business and financial structures essential for a sustainable ophthalmology career. Additionally, the session will include advice on financial fundamentals such as tax considerations, superannuation, and planning for a sustainable, flexible career.

The event aims to help emerging ophthalmologists understand their options and shape a path aligned with their personal and professional goals

The program highlights include ‘The transition: From training to practice’, during which a recent RANZCO Fellow will share their experience and lessons learned during their first years in private practice. This will be followed by ‘The business of ophthalmology’, offering practical frameworks around practice operations, financial considerations, and billing principles. A ‘Life and leadership in private practice’ panel discussion, led by SMS Healthcare partners and consultants, will then explore leadership, career pathways, mentorship, and the realities of work–life balance in private practice.

Participants will also gain clarity on the range of career models available –

from locum work to joining a doctor-owned or corporate practice, becoming an associate, or establishing their own clinic. The event aims to help emerging ophthalmologists understand their options and shape a path aligned with their personal and professional goals.
