A new patient-specific app has been released to inform patients about their cataract surgery procedure, what is involved in the process, the primary risks that may be encountered, how these may be mitigated, and the patient’s expected pathway to recovery.
Developed by ophthalmologist Dr Christolyn Raj in collaboration with the University of Melbourne and RMIT University, the Eyewise app aims to simplify medical terms so that patients understand their procedure. Eyewise is available in 10 languages.
The app includes a section for patients to acknowledge they have reviewed the information on the app – this acknowledgement is then emailed directly to the participating clinic.
The app is available at eyewise.net. (Note, for Apple phones, the app needs to be opened in Safari.)
