Dr Simon Chen, Dr Tiger Zhou, and Dr Christolyn Raj from Vision Eye Institute are set to present their unique perspectives on contemporary retinal care at a free webinar for optometrists on Wednesday 2 August.
‘The retina in focus: Expert perspectives for confident clinical decision making,’ has been created in response to optometrists’ feedback, and aims to elevate confidence in managing retinal disease.
The webinar will comprise three presentations:
Dr Simon Chen: ‘Weeds, wine stains and wrinkled tissue paper: Practical analogies to help your patients understand retinal disease’.
Dr Tiger Zhou: ‘The future of Anti-VEGF therapy in retinal disease management’.
Dr Christolyn Raj: ‘Intraocular lens performance in retinal pathology: How you can help optimise your patients’ vision’.
Additionally, the 1.5 hour session will include a live panel Q&A session, featuring all three presenters alongside moderators Kristina Iacovangelo and Cindy Trieu, both optometrists. This final session will gives attendees the opportunity to clarify key concepts, discuss real‑world clinical scenarios, and engage directly with the experts.

About the Presenters
Dr Simon Chen is a highly experienced retinal and cataract surgeon specialising in retinal disease and complex cataract surgery. He is an expert in modern vitrectomy techniques, intravitreal injections and laser cataract surgery and regularly receives referrals for complex cataract surgery, especially in patients with retinal disease or ocular trauma.
Dr Tiger Zhou is an Australian‑trained ophthalmologist with expertise in cataract and pterygium surgery, intraocular injections, glaucoma, and medical retinal disease. He has also pursued an interest in ophthalmology research, helping to identify new genetic variants associated with primary open-angle glaucoma, providing valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of the disease.
Dr Christolyn Raj is a Melbourne‑trained ophthalmologist specialising in refractive cataract and laser‑assisted cataract surgery and retinal disease. She has established herself as a key figure in the field of retinal medicine, with several years of active research to her name, particularly in the area of diabetes.

Cindy Trieu is the South Australia Clinical Relationships Manager and a clinical optometrist at Vision Eye Institute.
