Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) has partnered with mivision to launch a community-nominated award recognising eye care professionals (ECPs) who have made a meaningful difference to people affected by macular disease.
The new Eye Connect Healthcare Award has been launched as part of MDFA’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
The award will recognise eye care professionals who provide exceptional patient care, support better eye health outcomes, and connect patients with the services and information they need.
MDFA chief executive officer Dr Kathy Chapman said the initiative would “shine a light” on the dedication and compassion demonstrated across the eye care community.

“This award is our way of recognising those who go above and beyond for the people under their care.”
Dr Chapman said the award acknowledges that the role of an eye care professional often extends beyond clinical treatment.
“Every day, eye care professionals help people facing significant challenges associated with vision loss,” she said.
“This award gives patients, carers, and families the opportunity to say, ‘thank you’ and recognise the individuals whose care has made a lasting impact.”
The award also provides an opportunity for ECPs to celebrate the relationships they build with patients, and the difference compassionate care can make.
Healthcare professionals are encouraged to share information about the award with their patients and communities to help ensure these experiences are recognised.
Nominations should be made on the MDFA website by 1 September 2026.
The winner will be announced on 8 October to coincide with World Sight Day.
