Luxottica, the Australia’s largest optometry retailer, has announced a record number of graduates have joined the company following completion of optometry studies in 2008.
The 86 graduates come from all three of Australia’s optometry training institutions – the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, the Department of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Melbourne, the School of Optometry at the Queensland University of Technology, as well as the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
The graduates will practise in OPSM, Laubman & Pank and Budget Eyewear, with a significant number working in Federal Government-deemed regional and remote areas, including 10 in South Australia, 10 in Western Australia and four in the Australian Capital Territory.
In December, graduates attended an induction day at Luxottica’s head office in Sydney. Andrew McKinnon, Executive Director of the OAA NSW, spoke to the graduates at the event, as well as Dr Peter Herse who runs Luxottica’s Institute of Learning (IOL).
They were inducted by Luxottica in December with the company announcing that this graduate day marked the start of the ongoing support programmes for new optometry graduates and will continue with Luxottica’s mentoring program and ongoing Continuing Professional Development through the IOL.
