Alphagan P 1.5 eye drops is PBS listed as an eye drop for glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The product is free of benzalkonium chloride (BAK) – the most commonly used preservative in glaucoma medications, which has been associated with ocular symptoms and signs of irritation1 and aggravation of ocular surface disease2.
Alphagan P 1.5 eye drops contain Purite, the same preservative used in the Refresh and Optive lubricant eye drops range.
Alphagan P 1.5 differs from the original Alphagan (brimonidine tartrate 2mg/mL) eye drops in several other ways:
- A lower incidence of ocular allergy than original Alphagan 3
- A lower strength of brimonidine tartrate with the same IOP lowering efficacy as the original Alphagan 3
- A nearly neutral pH
Alphagan P 1.5 eye drops is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist indicated for lowering elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It can be used to treat glaucoma as monotherapy or with beta blockers.
