Australian ophthalmologists and retinal specialists are being urged to apply for the global Bayer Ophthalmology Awards Program (BOAP), which has just been launched by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.
The program offers research grants to better understand, and therefore treat, optic diseases such as age-related macular degeneration and other retinal disorders.
The BOAP will support projects in two different categories: the Clinical Training Award is a mentored award aimed specifically at ophthalmologists who are interested in pursuing careers as retinal specialists. The Research Award will support a wide range of basic and/or clinical research projects in retinal diseases. Each year, three one-year grants of up to USD$25,000 will be available in each category.
“We are proud to support this exciting new program and with applications taken from around the world we urge Australian ophthalmologists and retinal specialists to get involved,” said Rene Klemm, Bayer HealthCare General Manager Australia.
An independent committee of renowned healthcare professionals, led by the Australian retinal specialist Dr. Jennifer Arnold, will review the applications. Submissions for the 2012 cycle will close on 15 April 2012. For details visit www.bayer-ophthalmology-awards.com).
