The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) is calling for applications and nominations for its prestigious research awards, with a closing date of 1 November this year.
BCLA President Dr. Catherine Chisholm said the annual research awards “recognise and celebrate excellence in the field of contact lens and anterior eye research”.
“They recognise both those who have had a profound affect on the field through years of outstanding achievement, and those who are just starting their careers in research.
“It is rewarding to see how many of the Dallos, Da Vinci and Irving Fatt award winners go on to become significant figures in the field,” she said.
Introduced in 1993, the BCLA Medal Award goes to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to contact lenses. The BCLA Dallos Award funds a year-long project judged likely to further understanding of a topic related to contact lenses and/or the anterior eye. The BCLA Da Vinci Award recognises work by those who are not established contact lens researchers, or may be given in recognition of a useful contribution by a member of staff within the contact lens-related manufacture and supply industry.
As well, each year, the BCLA invites postgraduates in the field of contact lenses and/or the anterior eye to present the annual Irving Fatt Memorial Lecture.
Nominations are now due for the 2014 awards in each of these categories.
