Prego Expands with New Collection

Prego, the Scandinavian brand owned by Frands Jensen A/S could well become Australia’s fastest growing new brand in the eyewear sector.

Launched here in a small way last year by distributor C+C Eyewear, the value of pre-commitment sales for this season alone equates to one third of the company’s total sales for 2011!

“We introduced the brand last year with just a couple of scriptable sun models and the demand took us by surprise so we quickly followed with a collection of 30 models in two colours,” said Mr. Anderson, National Sales Director for C+C Eyewear. “This year we’ve released a new collection that comprises 45 models: 20 for men and 25 for women.

“The men’s shapes comprise aviator and larger size acetates. For women, we’ve got lots of vibrant reds, purples and whites, and cats-eyes that we didn’t have last year.”

“One of the great things about Prego is that as well as being fashionable, they’re really practical for fittings – each frame has details that include the sun lens material and the lens base curve printed on the temple. That makes it easy for shop staff and optical dispensers when they’re selling.”

He said for this collection the manufacturer has used Carl Zeiss lenses to attract customers who don’t need prescriptions.

The new collection was launched at the Scholars Wine Bar in Melbourne and The Vine Bar in Sydney.

“We decided in a non ODMA year to launch the product in a comfortable setting, with no heavy sales focus,” said Mr. Anderson.

Guests were invited to have their photos taken in a dedicated photo booth wearing Prego glasses. The pics were uploaded to facebook and those that attracted the most likes won a stock of 20 new Prego frames to get their sales going.
