Google has lodged a patent application for the second generation of Google Glass, which looks to be much more like a regular pair of specs than its predecessor.
According to Mashable, perhaps the most intriguing thing about the design specified in the patent application, “is the description of an advanced headset that projects images directly onto a person’s eye“. In its description of alternative methods of display, the patent says a version of Google Glass could use “a laser or LED source and scanning system…
to draw a raster display directly onto the retina of one or more of the user’s eyes”.Touch-sensitive frames and side-arms incorporate Google Glass 2’s CPU. Although audio is not mentioned, the application says that any component circuitry can be built into the earpiece.
Google’s patent is comprehensive with 19 pages of details and drawings. But as for when the first Google Glass will really hit the market – there’s still no word.
