SRC 2016: 5–6 March

An all new Southern Regional Congress, held over just two days at Melbourne’s Pullman Mecure Hotel, promises to be “as fun as it is informative”, according to Optometry Victoria Chief Executive Officer Pete Haydon.

The congress will include an evidence-based education program, an extensive trade exhibition, a students’ career expo, Saturday night gala dinner and Sunday breakfast session.

Mr. Haydon said SRC 2016 will “bring together optometric industry experts from across the country and around the world… for the exchange of leading-edge developments in research, practice management and industry expertise”.

2016 Presenters

One of SRC’s most popular speakers, Dr. Jeffry Gerson will return to SRC in 2016 to present on genetics, age related macular degeneration and his speciality, the retina.

SRC first timer, Dr. Nate Lighthizer will attend SRC from Oklahoma College of Optometry where he serves as the Chief of Specialty Care Clinics and the Chief of Electrodiagnostics Clinic, Director of Continuing Education and Assistant Dean for Clinical Care Services. Dr. Lighthizer will share his knowledge of advanced ophthalmic procedures, electrodiagnostics, and ocular disease.

Descibed as “bold, funny and more than willing to share his opinions”, Associate Professor Mark Roth will present on oral therapeutics in practice, and participate in a rapid fire session with Dr. Nate Lighthizer on Saturday afternoon.

Also scheduled to present is the extremely popular Dr. Neil Shuey, head of the Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinic at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and head of the Neuro-Immunology Clinic at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
