Australia Day awards recognised several eye health professionals who have made a significant contribution to the community, among them:

Companion (AC) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Professor Keryn William, SA, for eminent service to medical science in the field of ophthalmology through the research and development of corneal transplantation, as an academic and mentor, and as a supporter of young women scientists.

Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Dr. Noel Alpins, Victoria for significant service to ophthalmology, particularly to the development of innovative refractive surgery techniques, and to professional associations.

Dr. Garry Brian, Qld for significant service to ophthalmology, and to the provision of eye health care programs in rural and remote communities.

Australia Day awards recognised several eye health professionals

Dr. Iain Dunlop, ACT for significant service to ophthalmology, particularly through executive roles with professional medical organisations, and as a practitioner.

Associate Professor Geoffrey Painter, NSW for significant service to medicine in the field of ophthalmology, and to international relations, particularly to eye health in Asia and the Pacific.

Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division

James Simeon, NSW for services to people who are blind or with low vision.

John Farmer, Vic for service to optometry and to the community.

University of Melbourne Associate Professor Mark Roth for services to therapeutic optometry and to professional bodies.

Paul Clarke, WA for service to international humanitarian health programs, and to the optical profession.
