Grand plans by Australia’s largest private provider of ophthalmic services, Vision Eye Institute, to celebrate the 10-year-anniversary of its popular Eye 360 optometry conference in Victoria, have taken on a new look due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. While 250 people attended the 2019 event at Crown Casino, this year will see an online format in response to uncertainty around limits on indoor gatherings and travel restrictions.
“We’re pleased to announce that Eye 360 will go ahead as a series of free, live webinars taking place over August and September,” said Thao Vu, a referrer liaison for Vision Eye Institute. “The move to the River Room last year was a huge success, so we’re obviously disappointed that we can’t continue that this year. However, we need to stay flexible with the current situation, which we all know is constantly evolving.
“So, our new-look Eye 360 conference for 2020 will involve up to four one-hour webinars, each of which will be CPD accredited, accommodate up to 500 attendees and allow presenter–participant interaction through the Q&A function.”
Nicole Moore, practice manager of Vision Eye Institute Melbourne and a referrer liaison, said the topical and wide-ranging program for Eye 360 always draws upon previous delegate feedback to ensure content remains relevant to everyday optometry practice.
“Several of our ophthalmologists will deliver the presentations according to their area of expertise. Tentative topics include optical coherence tomography and Optos interpretation, iritis/uveitis management, dry eye challenges, and when and how to treat keratoconus.”
Eye 360 is one of several initiatives within Vision Eye Institute’s Shared Vision educational network for healthcare professionals (primarily optometrists and GPs). Although Shared Vision membership is not required to attend any of the Eye 360 webinars, members do receive:
- Earlybird invitations to CPD events,
- Invitations to member-only networking events,
- Access to an online collection of regularly updated educational material (e.g. case studies, CPD modules, videos, podcasts, articles), and
- Access to resources for clinics and patients (e.g. practice tools, patient handouts, management and referral pathways, urgent availability information for Vision Eye Institute clinics).
At the time of going to print the final programme and presenter line-up was yet to be confirmed.
